Gregory Colbert

Born In Toronto, Canada, Colbert began his career as a Documentary Film maker focused on social issues. After his first exhibition  ‘Timewaves’”opened to critical acclaim in 1992, Colbert went underground for 10 years travelling the globe filming and photographing the poignant and incredible relationship between man and beast.

When Colbert returned in 2002 he presented ‘Ashes and Snow’ to the Arsenale in Venice, an exhibition that combined photographic artworks, films and musical scores all tied together in an immersive experience to be showcased in his purpose-built travelling ‘Nomadic Museum’.

The New York Times, in an article by Alan Riding, stated, “The power of the images comes less from their formal beauty than from the way they envelop the viewer in their mood. . . .They are simply windows to a world in which silence and patience govern time.”

It became the most visited exhibition by any living artist having attracted over 10 million visitors.
